Check your high-wage job offer

Will it count for Express Entry points, and will it hold up?

A job offer in a high-wage occupation can now add 50, 70 or 100 CRS points, and you no longer need an LMIA. An IRCC officer still checks that the offer is genuine before you get permanent residence.

Answer four short steps. Each one opens the next.

Start the check
Folded paper plane

Step 1 of 4

Find the occupation on your offer

Points depend on the NOC code of the job, not on the salary in your offer. Search by code or job title.

Folded paper briefcase

186 occupations from IRCC's high-wage list, data from 2023 to 2025.

50 pts1.3 times the median wage
70 pts1.5 times the median wage
100 pts2 times the median wage

Step 2 of 4

Check the terms of the offer

Finish step 1 to open this.

IRCC only counts an offer that meets every one of these. If you're not sure, ask your employer to put it in the letter.

  • It's in writing and signed by the employer

It sets out your pay and deductions, your duties, and conditions like hours of work.

  • It's recent

An old letter from a job you've since left won't count.

  • It's full-time, at least 30 hours a week

IRCC lists this for the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Part-time or on-call work doesn't qualify.

  • It's continuous and paid, not seasonal

IRCC lists this for the Federal Skilled Worker program. A contract that stops each winter doesn't qualify.

  • It lasts at least 1 year after you become a permanent resident

A permanent job meets this. A contract ending in 6 months doesn't.

  • The employer isn't an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada

Offers from foreign missions never count.

Step 3 of 4

Compare it with your Canadian work experience

Finish step 2 to open this.

IRCC gives you points for a job offer or for Canadian work experience, whichever is higher. They are not added together.

Is your spouse or common-law partner coming with you?

Lowers the cap for this factor from 150 to 140 points.

TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3, in the last 10 years.

Combined time across high-wage occupations counts.

Job offer: 0 points
Work experience: 0 points · Counts

Points for work experience come from the Ministerial Instructions for Express Entry, section 15.

Step 4 of 4

Make sure the offer will pass a genuineness check

Finish step 3 to open this.

An officer must be satisfied the offer is real. IRCC lists six things they look at. Tick the evidence you or your employer could send if asked. The examples come from what officers request in work permit cases.

The employer is active in the businessIs this a real, operating business with a workplace in Canada? Not started

What changed for Express Entry job offers on November 3, 2026

Job offers count for CRS points again, but only when the job is in a high-wage occupation. An offer in any other occupation adds no points.

You no longer need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for the offer to count. Having one doesn't give you extra points.

IRCC is recalculating the scores of profiles already in the pool. This can take up to two weeks, and IRCC has paused invitation rounds until it's done.

Source: IRCC: Express Entry, job offer (updated November 3, 2026)

How many CRS points is a job offer worth?

It depends on the level of the occupation, measured against the median wage in Canada.

Job offer and work experience points by level
LevelJob offerBonus for 12 months of work there
2 times the median wage100 points70 points
1.5 times the median wage70 points40 points
1.3 times the median wage50 points20 points

Canadian work experience also earns points: 40, 53, 64, 72, 80 for 1 to 5 years or more, or 35, 46, 56, 63, 70 if your spouse or partner comes with you. The high-wage bonus is added on top when you have worked at least 12 months in high-wage occupations.

You get the job offer points or the work experience points, whichever is higher. IRCC never adds them together. The most you can get for this factor is 150 points, or 140 with a spouse or partner.

Two examples

You have an offer as a software engineer (NOC 21231, 1.5 times the median wage) and 1 year of Canadian work experience in another job. The offer is worth 70 points and your experience 40. You get 70, so the offer adds 30 points.

Same offer, but you have 3 years of Canadian work experience, all of it at the 1.5 level. Your experience is worth 64 + 40 = 104 points. You get 104, so the offer adds 0.

What makes a job offer valid for Express Entry

For every Express Entry program, IRCC says the offer must:

  • be in writing and set out your pay and deductions, your duties, and conditions like hours of work
  • be recent
  • be for at least 1 year after you become a permanent resident
  • not be from an embassy, high commission or consulate in Canada

The offer can be with your current employer or a new one.

Federal Skilled Worker program

To count toward eligibility, the offer must be from one employer, for continuous, paid, full-time work (at least 30 hours a week) that isn't seasonal, in an occupation at TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.

Federal Skilled Trades program

The offer can be from up to two employers, for continuous, paid, full-time work in one of the listed skilled trades.

Source: IRCC: Express Entry, job offer (updated November 3, 2026)

Is your job offer genuine? How IRCC checks

An officer must be satisfied that the offer is real. IRCC lists six things they look at:

  1. The employer is actively running the business.
  2. The employer can meet the terms of the offer, including your pay.
  3. The offer meets a real need of the business.
  4. The employer has followed employment and recruitment laws.
  5. You are qualified and able to do the job.
  6. You will take the job and do it.

Evidence employers are asked for

In work permit cases, officers ask for things like a CRA business number, a business licence, a T4 Summary, corporate tax schedules, a workers' compensation clearance letter, a job description and a note on why the role is needed. Step 4 of the check lists them all.

Red flags

  • The business is less than a year old.
  • The role doesn't fit what the business does.
  • The wage looks high for the size of the business.
  • You can't verify the workplace.
  • Someone asked you to pay to get the offer.
  • The employer won't share documents an officer might ask for.

Questions

Do I still need an LMIA for an Express Entry job offer?

No. Since November 3, 2026, you don't need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for a job offer to count. Having one doesn't give you extra points.

How many CRS points do I get for a job offer in 2026?

50, 70 or 100 points, depending on the level of the occupation: 1.3, 1.5 or 2 times the median wage. The occupation has to be on IRCC's high-wage list. An offer in any other occupation adds no CRS points.

Is my occupation on the high-wage list?

Search your NOC code or job title in step 1, or look it up in the full list on this page. The level comes from the NOC code of the job, not from your own salary.

Can I get points for a job offer and Canadian work experience at the same time?

No. IRCC gives you whichever is higher. The most you can get for this factor is 150 points, or 140 if your spouse or partner comes with you.

Does my job offer have to be from my current employer?

No. IRCC says the offer can be with an existing or a new employer. To be eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker program, the offer has to be from one employer.

What should I enter for the LMIA number in my Express Entry profile?

IRCC says to answer Yes to the positive LMIA question, enter 00000 as the LMIA number, January 1, 2026 as the issuance date and January 1, 2029 as the expiry date. Check IRCC's job offer page before you submit in case this changes.

How does IRCC check if my job offer is genuine?

An officer looks at whether the employer is an active business, can meet the terms of the offer, has a real need for the role and follows employment laws, and whether you're qualified for the job and will take it. The genuineness section on this page lists the evidence employers are asked for.

What happens if my job offer is revoked after I get an invitation?

IRCC says a job offer that is revoked no longer qualifies. If your points depended on it, your score can change. Talk to a lawyer before you submit your application.

My offer is in an occupation that isn't on the list. Is it useless?

It adds no CRS points. It can still make you eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker or Federal Skilled Trades programs.
